Basic Needs
Children who lack basic needs (adequate and nutritious foods, seasonally appropriate clothing, and a housing environment free of danger, for example) may struggle to thrive. The Philbeck Foundation seeks to promote an environment where children can feel safe, succeed and flourish without worry of basic needs like food, clothing and adequate shelter.
Academic Support
Many children require special adaptations or extra assistance to be successful in school. For others, accessing resources designed to assist them may be a challenge. Though many school systems provide programming and academic support services, many lack funding needed to grow programs to serve all children in need. The Philbeck Foundation seeks to bridge gaps between children and the academic services that can ensure their success in school.
Health/Wellness
Many children experience insurance and non-insurance barriers to getting comprehensive and timely health care. Additionally, one in five children across the United States has a diagnosable mental health problem and most of them are receiving little or no help. The Philbeck Foundation seeks to support efforts which directly impact the physical and emotional wellness of children with limited access to health care.
Character/Life Skills
Children, particularly those from disadvantaged homes, can greatly benefit from character skills (like self-control, perseverance, gratitude, for example) and other essential life skills. Additionally, developing social and emotional learning skills (like self-awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making) can help a child feel more engaged at school and manage relationships better–all increasing their chances for academic success, health and happiness. The Philbeck Foundation seeks to support efforts which promote the development of character and life skills in children.
Community Impact
Linda Needham - Child Welfare Program Manager
“With the assistance from The Philbeck Foundation, we will be able to assist (foster) children with current unmet needs. Our goals are to give children opportunities that their peers have who may not come within the child welfare system. This financial gift may help families achieve safety and permanence for their children.
With this gift (the child welfare team) will be able to remove barriers and help children and families achieve goals and celebrate their successes. Furthermore, the children in Monroe will have the financial support and encouragement from our team to learn new skills that will reduce their trauma and improve their confidence.”
